Tractor Trailer Plastic Bumper

After completing an aerodynamics study, a manufacturer of semi-truck bodies contacted Helton with a project.Their study found that if the semi’s bumper was extended by six inches it would push the wind resistantance around the truck more efficiently, thus improving fuel mileage.  During design & development, the customer decided to add fog lights to this area, which would aid the driver in adverse weather conditions.

Helton used ABS plastic, which can be painted, so that the bumper addition could match the truck body. ABS is also a very durable, long lasting material which enabled it to withstand the day to day driving conditions on our nation’s highways.

In the end the customer not only achieved the goal of fuel efficiency but also added a safety feature by adding the fog lights. This project was a win for both Helton and our customer.
